Philip Fisher Barlow (1933-2018) always knew that art would play a major role in his life. He drew constantly as a child and this led him to studies in the Department of Fine Art at the University of Utah, where he graduated with a BFA degree. At the University of Utah, he studied with noted artists George S. Dibble, Alvin Gittins and V. Douglas Snow.

After a tour with the U.S. Army, Philip formed his own illustration and graphic design firm specializing in corporate identity, packaging, and annual report design. He retired the business in 1997. He painted and exhibited throughout these years and his work was represented by galleries in New Mexico, Wyoming, California and Utah.

He joined the Utah Watercolor Society in 1983 and eventually served as President. During the same period, he began to explore the use of acrylics and oils. He was a master of all three mediums.

He said a major lesson learned was "listen to my critics but feel free to ignore them."
